Privacy Policy
This page explains what personal information Oboverse collects, why, and the choices you have. Oboverse is run by RoboticGen (Pvt) Ltd. It is written to be read by learners as well as parents and teachers.
The short version
We collect very little
From Google we take a name, an email address and a profile picture. Nothing else.
No ads, and you choose
Oboverse has no advertising and never sells personal information. Analytics only run if you say yes.
Your email stays private
Other people see your name, picture and what you publish. They never see your email address.
You can delete everything
Deleting your account removes your profile, projects, builds, comments and uploaded pictures.
1. Who we are
Oboverse is a place where learners publish step-by-step guides to the things they build, and try each other's builds. It is run by RoboticGen (Pvt) Ltd, the company behind RoboticGen Academy, which is the data controller for the personal information described here.
This policy covers Oboverse only. The RoboticGen Academy website and its enrolment forms have their own privacy policy. The rules for using Oboverse are in our Terms of Service.
2. Information we collect
From your Google account, when you sign in: your name, your email address, your profile picture and the identifier Google uses for your account. We never see or store your Google password.
What you add yourself:
- projects: titles, descriptions, steps and the pictures you upload;
- builds: your write-up and pictures when you try someone else's project;
- comments and replies;
- collections of projects.
What your activity creates: likes, stars and follows; builder points and your level; notifications; your email preferences; and the dates you joined and last signed in.
Technical information: like any website, our servers handle your IP address and browser details in order to deliver pages and keep the service secure.
Usage information, only if you agree: which pages are visited, how long for, the kind of device and browser, an approximate location worked out from the IP address, and how pages are used, such as clicks, scrolling and mouse movement. See Cookies and analytics.
We do not ask for a date of birth, home address, phone number, school or payment details.
3. How we use your information
- to sign you in and keep your account secure;
- to show your projects, comments and profile to other people on Oboverse;
- to award builder points and levels;
- to notify you about activity on your projects, such as comments, stars and new followers;
- to send the weekly email summary, if it is switched on;
- to let mentors review content and remove anything that does not belong;
- to understand how Oboverse is used and fix what is confusing, if you have agreed to analytics.
4. What other people can see
Public, including to people who are not signed in and to search engines: your name and profile picture; projects you have published; builds of your own projects that you choose to make public; your comments; collections you have made public; and your points, level and follower counts.
Private to you: your email address, your draft projects, your private collections, and builds you make of someone else's project.
Visible to RoboticGen staff: mentors and administrators can see account details, including your email address, and can review content in order to run and moderate the platform.
Please do not put personal details such as a phone number, home address or school name in a project or comment. Mentors may remove them if they see them.
5. Children's privacy
Oboverse is made for RoboticGen Academy learners aged 8 to 15. Children should use Oboverse with the knowledge and permission of a parent or guardian, and sign in with a Google account that a parent or guardian has set up or approved.
We do not use children's information for advertising or marketing, and we keep what we collect to the minimum needed to run the platform. Analytics are off unless the person using Oboverse says yes.
Parents and guardians can ask us at any time to show them their child's information, correct it, or delete the account. See Contact us.
6. Cookies and analytics
Always on, because Oboverse needs them to work:
- Sign-in cookie: keeps you signed in for up to 30 days. It is removed when you sign out.
- Google sign-in: Google may set its own cookies when you use the sign-in button.
- Browser storage: your browser remembers your light or dark theme, your cookie choice, unsaved work in the editor, and which point celebrations you have already seen. This stays on your device.
Only if you say yes when we ask:
- Google Tag Manager: loads the Google measurement tools we use, such as Google Analytics, which count visits and show which pages are used.
- Microsoft Clarity: records how pages are used, including clicks, scrolling and mouse movement, so that we can replay a visit and see where people get stuck.
These tools set their own cookies and receive your IP address. We use them to improve Oboverse, never for advertising. Oboverse works the same whether you say yes or no, and nothing is loaded until you choose.
You can change your mind at any time.
7. Emails
The weekly summary for learners is off until you switch it on. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and you can change your choice at any time in your dashboard settings. We do not send marketing emails from Oboverse.
8. Who we share information with
We do not sell personal information. We share it only with the service providers that help us run Oboverse, and only as far as they need it:
- Google, for sign-in and, if you have agreed, analytics;
- Microsoft, for Clarity, if you have agreed to analytics;
- our hosting, database and file storage providers;
- our email delivery provider, for the weekly summary.
Projects can include videos and files embedded from YouTube, Vimeo, Loom and Google Drive. When you open a page with an embed, that service receives your IP address and may set its own cookies, under its own privacy policy.
We may also disclose information where the law requires it.
9. International transfers
Some of these providers store or process information outside Sri Lanka. Where that happens, the information is protected by the safeguards those providers apply.
10. Retention and security
We keep your information for as long as you have an account. When an account is deleted, the profile and everything belonging to it are removed: projects and the builds made of them, your own builds, comments, likes, stars, follows, collections, points, notifications and uploaded pictures. Copies may remain in backups for a limited time before they are overwritten.
We protect information with encrypted connections, private storage for uploaded pictures, and access limited to the staff who need it. No online service can promise perfect security.
11. Your choices and rights
- Change: set your email preferences in your dashboard settings. Your name and picture come from your Google account.
- Delete: delete your account, and everything in it, from the same settings page.
- Analytics: say no, or withdraw a yes, through Cookie settings.
- Ask: under Sri Lanka's Personal Data Protection Act No. 9 of 2022 you can ask us for a copy of your information, to correct it, to delete it, or to stop using it. We will respond within 30 days.
12. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change affects how we use your information in an important way, we will tell you on Oboverse before it takes effect.
