Terms of Service

These are the rules for using Oboverse, which is run by RoboticGen (Pvt) Ltd. They are written to be read by learners as well as parents and teachers.

The short version

  • Be kind

    Cheer other makers on. No bullying, mean comments, spam or adverts.

  • Keep personal details out

    No phone numbers, addresses or school names, yours or anyone else's.

  • Build safely

    Nobody checks projects for safety. Use tools, heat and electricity with an adult.

  • Your work stays yours

    You own what you publish. Others may use it as long as they give you credit.

1. About these terms

Oboverse is run by RoboticGen (Pvt) Ltd, the company behind RoboticGen Academy. These terms are the rules for using it. By signing in or using Oboverse you agree to them and to our Privacy Policy.

If you do not agree, please do not use Oboverse.

2. Who can use Oboverse

Oboverse is made for learners aged 8 to 15. If you are in that age group, you must have the permission of a parent or guardian to use it, and they agree to these terms on your behalf.

Parents, guardians, teachers and RoboticGen mentors may also use Oboverse. Everyone signs in with a Google account.

3. Your account

  • Have one account, and use it only for yourself.
  • Keep the Google account you sign in with secure.
  • You are responsible for what is done through your account.
  • Tell us if you think someone else has used your account.

4. Community rules

When you publish a project, a build or a comment, do not post:

  • bullying, insults, threats or hateful content;
  • sexual, violent or frightening content;
  • personal details about yourself or anyone else, such as a phone number, home address, school name or photos of other people without their permission;
  • spam, advertising, or links that have nothing to do with the project;
  • anything illegal, or instructions meant to hurt people or damage property;
  • anything that pretends to be from someone else.

Do not try to break, overload or get around the security of Oboverse, or collect information about other people who use it.

If you see something that breaks these rules, tell a mentor or email hello@roboticgenacademy.com with a link to it.

5. Building safely

Projects on Oboverse are written by learners. We do not test them or check them for safety or accuracy, including projects that mentors have featured. If you follow a project, you do so at your own risk.

  • Use sharp tools, soldering irons, heat, batteries, motors and mains electricity only with an adult supervising.
  • Wear the right protection, and stop if something does not look safe.
  • When a step in your own project is risky, say so clearly in that step.

6. Your content

You own the projects, builds, pictures and comments you post.

Licence to everyone. When you publish a project, or make a build public, you share it under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 licence (CC BY 4.0). This means anyone may copy, share and adapt it, for any purpose, as long as they give you credit. Drafts and private builds are not shared.

Permission to us. You also allow RoboticGen (Pvt) Ltd to store, display, reformat and share what you post in order to run and promote Oboverse. This includes showing it in search and featured lists, creating PDF versions and preview images, and sending it in email summaries.

If you delete a project or your account, we remove it from Oboverse. Copies that other people already made under the licence are theirs to keep using.

7. Other people's work

Only post what you made yourself or have permission to use, and say where borrowed pictures, code or ideas came from. When you build on someone else's project, credit them.

If you believe something on Oboverse copies your work without permission, email hello@roboticgenacademy.com with a link to it and to the original. We will review it and remove it where appropriate.

8. Moderation

RoboticGen mentors and administrators look after Oboverse. They may unpublish a project, remove a comment, or suspend or close an account that breaks these terms or puts anyone at risk. When a project is unpublished, its author is told why and can fix it and publish again.

We are not able to review everything that is posted, and we are not responsible for what other people post.

9. Points, levels and featuring

Builder points, levels and featured spots are for fun and recognition. They have no money value, cannot be exchanged or transferred, and we may change how they work or reset them. Which projects are featured is the mentors' choice.

10. Other services

Projects can include videos and files from YouTube, Vimeo, Loom and Google Drive, and links to other websites. Those services are run by other companies under their own terms, and we are not responsible for them.

11. Changes to Oboverse

We may add, change or remove features, and Oboverse may sometimes be unavailable. We may stop running Oboverse altogether; if we do, we will try to give notice first.

12. No guarantees

Oboverse is provided "as is" and "as available". We only maintain the platform. We make no promises that it will always work, that it is free of errors, or that any project, comment or other content on it is accurate, complete or safe.

13. Limits on our responsibility

To the fullest extent the law allows, RoboticGen (Pvt) Ltd, its staff and its mentors are not liable for any loss, damage or injury that comes from:

  • following, building or relying on any project or other content on Oboverse;
  • anything posted or done by other people who use Oboverse;
  • Oboverse being unavailable, or content being lost or removed;
  • services run by other companies that Oboverse links to or embeds.

You use Oboverse at your own risk. Nothing in these terms removes rights or responsibilities that the law does not allow to be removed.

14. Leaving

You can stop using Oboverse at any time, and delete your account and everything in it from your dashboard settings. We may suspend or close an account for serious or repeated breaches of these terms.

15. Changes to these terms

If we change these terms we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change is important, we will tell you on Oboverse before it takes effect. Continuing to use Oboverse after a change means you accept it.

16. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka, and the courts of Sri Lanka have jurisdiction over any dispute about them.
